Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient healing art which originated in Japan. Reiki is a hands on healing technique which is very gentle but powerful. The energy involved is the universal energy that surrounds all living things. Reiki is used globally by people of all religions and belief systems and can benefit everyone's life. Reiki stimulates the body's own ability to heal itself. It helps restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit. It promotes both physical and emotional wellbeing, helping us to cope better with the stresses of life. When our "Ki" or Life Force Energy is flowing freely, we are generally happier, healthier and more balanced. Reiki helps us to get 'In the Flow' and generally feel happier and healthier. Reiki can be used while pregnant, during cancer treatments and while on medication. Reiki has proved to benefit a broad range of conditions, such as migraine, asthma, skin conditions, arthritis, stress and sleep problems.
What is an individual Reiki session like? How does it work?
A session is done on a Reiki table with the client fully clothed. The Reiki Practitioner gently rests his/her hands over a person's body in a series of hand positions that covers the receivers body. (Also referred to as the aura in the areas of the seven major Chakras). Energy flows through the practitioners hands to the client's body. Intuition guides the length of time the hands remain in any given area. A Reiki practitioner receives this ability through a series of attunements or initiations from a Reiki Master. Level I allows the practitioner to connect to the reiki channel. Level II enables the practitioner to provide distant or remote healing. Level III initiates the practitioner to become a Reiki Master. A state of deep relaxation, combined with a general feeling of well-being, is usually the most noticeable immediate effect of the treatment, although emotional releases can also occur.

How many sessions will I need and how often?
It is difficult to say for sure – everyone is different and it depends on the severity of your condition and how long it has been manifesting. Discussion about followup visits will take place at the end of your session.

Are there any side effects?
Reiki is completely safe, but each treatment is different for each person. Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. Toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign!

Does one have to stop seeing a regular doctor or psychologist in order to recieve Reiki?
No. Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment. If one has a medical or psychological condition, it is recommended that one see a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki treatments. Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results.
